Among the events co-financed as part of the first edition of the program was Children's Day in Łeba – an unforgettable celebration of joy, education, and fun. Thanks to the involvement of local services, social organizations, and residents, the youngest participants could not only have a great time but also learn about safety rules and develop their interests. Demonstrations by the Volunteer Fire Department and the SAR service, artistic performances, entertainment, delicious treats, and shared fun made the day a true celebration of the local community.
The first Łeba Men's 3x3 Basketball Tournament and Freestyle Dunk Contest was an event that warmed the hearts of fans and participants alike. The competitive spirit, exciting matches, and wonderful atmosphere are proof that sport brings people together and builds social bonds.
These are just a few examples of the initiatives supported in the first edition. Thanks to the funding, events promoting physical activity and health, education, intergenerational integration, and social development were organized in collaboration with the local government, non-governmental organizations, and engaged residents of Łeba and the surrounding area.
The pilot edition of the "Power of the Baltic" program successfully identified the key needs of Łeba residents. Last year's call for proposals received 19 applications for funding for local initiatives. Ultimately, 12 received financial support.
New edition – new possibilities
Preparations are already underway for the launch of the second edition of the Power of the Baltic program. A meeting of organizers will be held at the turn of June and July to develop the schedule for the second edition, along with the application selection process and evaluation procedures. Detailed information will be available on the website mocbaltyku.pl.
The programme organisers are already encouraging local associations, schools, sports clubs, non-governmental organisations and local governments to prepare ideas and projects that could be implemented in the next edition.
The Power of the Baltic program is an initiative of Baltic Power, a company building an offshore wind farm in the Baltic Sea. A service base is already operating in Łeba, which will support the farm for up to 30 years, and is already supporting the offshore construction process.
The Baltic Power offshore wind farm, a joint project of ORLEN and Northland Power, is the most advanced offshore wind project in Poland and the first to reach the construction phase. Work is progressing according to schedule, which assumes that the planned farm will contribute approximately 1.2 GW of capacity to the national energy system by 2026. It will also be one of the first farms in the world with wind turbines of 15 MW each. Baltic Power will meet approximately 3% of Poland's current energy demand, thereby reducing national CO2 emissions by approximately 2.8 million tons per year.
