Reformation Era

In the 16th century, when Martin Luther stirred up a storm in the Catholic Church, Łeba was not immune to these new ideas. The arrival of the Reformation in the area was a moment of both hope and conflict. Lutheranism brought with it a new form of worship and doctrine that began to shape the local community. Influenced by neighboring Royal Prussia, Łeba's residents began to embrace Lutheranism, resulting in significant changes in local religious and social life.

Disasters and reconstruction

Over the centuries, the city has experienced numerous disasters, including fires that destroyed its structure. The most dramatic was the fire of 1682, when a significant portion of the city, including the church, burned down. The reconstruction after these tragedies demonstrated not only the determination of its inhabitants but also the architectural diversity that, over time, has added to the city's character.

Wars and transformations of the 20th century

Two world wars profoundly affected the city's demographics and structure. The German occupation during World War II and the subsequent post-war transformations significantly changed Łeba. The introduction of Polish administration and the arrival of Polish settlers after 1945 brought new challenges and opportunities.

Spiritual and cultural revival after 1945

After the war, Łeba became a place where its new residents, mostly Poles, began to rebuild their social and religious life. The adaptation of the former Evangelical church to the needs of the new Catholic parish was a symbol of these changes. The development of Polish pastoral ministry and the restoration of religious life were crucial to Łeba's integration and the building of a new identity as a Polish city.

Present day and heritage

Today, Łeba is a dynamic city, thriving not only on tourism but also on its rich historical heritage. Residents and visitors alike can experience not only beautiful beaches but also the evidence of the city's rich history in its architecture, museums, and traditions.
